Ghana signals readiness to explore MoU on green development with China

The Ghana–China Climate Summit 2025, held at the AfCFTA Auditorium in Accra, on September 16, 2025, marked a major milestone in bilateral cooperation, attracting more than 250 participants from governments, the diplomatic community, academia, civil society and the private sector.

Delivering a keynote address, Issifu Seidu, Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, announced Ghana’s readiness to explore the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Green Development Cooperation with China, under the framework of the FOCAC 2024 Beijing Action Plan.

The minister emphasised that such an MoU would provide Ghana with an opportunity to formalize cooperation with China on renewable energy, green industrialization, sustainable infrastructure and climate finance.

He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to ensuring that all cooperation aligns with national priorities and contributes to resilience, adaptation, and inclusive green growth.

Speaking at the same event,Tong Defa, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, reaffirmed China’s strong commitment to supporting Africa’s green transition.

He highlighted Beijing’s pledge to implement 30 clean energy projects across Africa, emphasising China’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with Ghana to translate commitments into practical results.

In his welcome remarks, Paul Frimpong, Executive Director of the Africa–China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA), described the summit as “a historic milestone in Ghana–China relations,” underlining that the time has come to move beyond declarations to practical partnerships that impact communities directly.

The Summit agenda featured keynote speeches, plenary sessions and networking opportunities, generating strong enthusiasm and high-level engagement.

The Ghana–China Climate Summit 2025 was convened under the Sino–African Green Finance Alliance (SAGFA) program of ACCPA, supported by the African Climate Foundation (ACF).

The event underscored the growing importance of climate diplomacy and the potential of Ghana–China cooperation in shaping a sustainable future.
