AASUP Meets GoldBod to Explore Sustainable Mining Collaborations

The Association of African Sustainability Practitioners (AASUP) held a high-level meeting with the Ghana GoldBod on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, to discuss potential collaborations aimed at strengthening sustainable mining practices.

The meeting, hosted at GoldBod headquarters in Accra, saw AASUP represented by its President, Mr. Humphrey Tetteh, Dr. Peter Nyano, and Executive Secretary Sakina Twumasi.

GoldBod’s delegation included Deputy CEO, Richard Nunekpeku, Professor Ishmael Quaicoe, Director of Responsible Mining and Sustainability, Dr. Thomas Agyei, ESG Manager, Mrs. Linda Asamoah Boateng, Unit Head of Mining Operations, and Mr. James German, Deputy Director of Mining Operations.

The discussions focused on opportunities for capacity building in sustainable mining, ESG reporting, and related training programs.

AASUP highlighted how its training initiatives could strengthen GoldBod’s operational capacity and data collection across all departments.

GoldBod, established to de-risk the mining sector and align licensing with global standards, emphasized the importance of ESG, traceability, and sustainability issues.

The organization has dedicated committees on ESG and Sustainability to ensure mining practices are aligned with global trends and local community development.

The partnership between AASUP, GoldBod, and the African Technology University (ATU) is expected to significantly advance sustainable mining practices, support alternative livelihoods, and ensure the mining industry in Ghana meets international best practices.
